Test days conclude first phase of robot development for public bodies

Six months can be over very, very fast as our research and development consortia in Public end-user Driven Technological Innovation (PDTI) could experience from 6th – 8th July in and around Barcelona. During these test days the researchers presented the results of their work completed during the first half year of their participation in the PDTI scheme. For both challenges, sewer inspection as well as Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), independent experts evaluated the progress of the consortia. As the pictures show, the robots developed so far were tested in the sewer of Barcelona respectively in the Hospital Sant Antoni Abat in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Spain), thus bringing them out of the lab into the real world.

The evaluation also marked the end of the first phase of technology development in PDTI, the design concept phase. Based on the hitherto unpublished results of the evaluation only two out of three consortia in each challenge will enter the next phase and get funding for prototyping and finally the development of a small-scale test series. Until the results of the evaluation have been approved by the European Commission, we unfortunately can’t announce exactly which consortia will enter the next phase. But, what we can already do is to say “thank you” to all the participants in phase one for sparing no effort to develop robots for the needs of public bodies.
